Abstract
Islam imposes a great importance upon the relationship among the relatives and, especially between the husband and the wife. The basis of the relationship rests upon blood connection, marriage contract and affinity. Thus Islam recognises mutual rights and obligations among the relatives. Though Muslim law enjoins the obligations for maintenance of the children, the parents and the other relatives, the right to maintenance of the wife gets priority over them in the eye of law. However, the relationship between the husband and the wife starts with marriage contract and it gets strengthened not only for their respective love and compassion but also for their mutual rights and obligations. In this regard, the Holy Quran states:
