Abstract
The term of the seventh Parliament came to end on July 13, 2001. According to the Constitution of Bangladesh, parliamentary election was to be held under Non-Party Caretaker Government within 90 days. Therefore, the Non-Party Caretaker Government headed by Justice Latifur Rahman, entered upon the office on July 15 two days after the expiration of five-year terms of the seventh Parliament. The Chief Adviser of the Non-Party Caretaker Government, Justice Latifur Rahman, appointed his 10-member Council of Advisers the following day of his taking oath on July 15.’ The Chief Election Commissioner M.A. Syed called on the Chief Adviser on July 17, 2001 to discuss the various aspects specially the date of election.” Thereafter the Election Commission be declared the election schedule on August 19, 2001 and accordingly election was held on October 1, 2001.
