Abstract
Islamic law of inheritance has developed with the interpretations of the jurists based on the verses of the Quran and Sunna of the Prophet (pbuh). The entitlement of a daughter in inheritance in families devoid of son has become a concern for such families in Bangladesh. Muslim Countries like Tunisia, Iraq and Indonesia have enhanced the position of daughter in families where there is no son. The research has examined the term kalala and its interpretation by jurists to understand the differences in allotment of daughter’s share in the three countries mentioned and the rest of the world. The study, thus aims to explore possible reform for daughters right of inheritance in absence of sons in Bangladesh. An initiative was taken by the Law Commission of Bangladesh to enhance the status of daughters through the statutory law of the country. Neither Bangladesh Government, nor the Law Commission have so far taken any further steps to execute their plan.
