Abstract
The Mayor’s Courts were established in British India about three hundred twenty five years ago to adjudicate foreign nationals, mainly Europeans living in the British India. Subsequently, the jurisdiction of the court was extended to native Indians. This paper provides a detailed description of the Mayor’s Courts. The purpose of this article is to focus on the composition and functions of the Mayor’s Courts with respect to the contemporary socio-political situation of then British India. This article also analyses the influences of the Mayor’s Courts over the present judiciary in Bangladesh.
