Abstract

The laws concerning polygamy differ greatly throughout the Islamic world and form a very complex and diverse background from nation to nation. In some Muslim countries it may be fairly common, whereas in most others it is often rare or non-existent. According to traditional Islamic law, a man may take up to four wives, if he is able to afford and take care of each of them properly and justly. It is to be noted that Islam permits polygamy only in some special contexts. However, some of the people of Bangladesh do not have knowledge enough about Islamic law as well as traditional law as regards polygamy. Due to lack of adequate knowledge or misconception of Islamic law some people of our country think that when they desire, they can enter into multiple marriage. In such a situation, the laws relating to polygamy need to be revised. Though, to restrict polygamy, there is Muslim Family Laws Ordinance, 1961 in Bangladesh, the Ordinance is unable to meet the aspiration of the people of our country. In this article an amendment of this Ordinance has been proposed to achieve this goal.

About Us

This is an example page. It’s different from a blog post because it will stay in one place and will show up in your site navigation (in most themes). Most people start with an About page that introduces them to potential site visitors. It might say something like this: Hi there! I’m a bike messenger by day, aspiring actor by night, and this is my website. I live in Los Angeles, have a great dog named Jack, and I like piña coladas. (And gettin’ caught in the rain.) read more
