Islam deals with marriage, divorce, maintenance, dower, dowry polygamy, inheritance and many other isues of personal law in detail. There are many schools of thoughts on these issues. Not all schools of Islam deal with them from similar point of view. During the reign of Colonialism the Muslim traditionalism could withhold the process of injecting many Western principles in the legal systems of the Muslim countries. Subsequently a good number of Western and secular principles of law were being incorporated in the personal law of the Muslim countries. These statements are more or less true for Bangladesh as well. Muslim societies are now often divided on many important issues of personal law.
