Abstract
Children are the youngest member of a family as well as a country. The child is the father of a nation. But they are one of the most vulnerable group in respect of violence in Bangladesh. At present the rate of under 14 years old child of total population are 45 percent in our country. Among them about 23 percent are male child and 22 percent are female child. For the protection of this child there are about 25 laws in our country. Besides that there are some provisions in Bangladesh Constitution for establishing child rights. On the other hand Bangladesh is one of the signatories of the Convention on the Rights of the Child which was adopted by the United Nations Organisation in 1989. Inspite of this, torture of a child are increasing day by day. They are deprived of their rights. For them life is a daily struggle to survive whether they live in urban or rural area. For these children, childhood as a time to grow, learn, play and feel safe is basically meaningless. Many times death is the last consequence for them. They are prone to torture in every walk of life. At home, in schools, in park, at working places and everywhere they roam, it is not secure for them. This article has discussed child rights, types of torture of a child and some realities of life. At the end it has suggested some recommendations to
ensure child rights.
