Abstract
The people of Bangladesh have very limited access to get information and randomly face difficulties to get information from government and non-government institutions. The Constitution gaurantees the freedom of speech and expression for every citizen but people right to get the access to information is hindered by government officials by showing excuse of the official secrecy act. The right to access information is not only crucial to development, democracy, accountability and effective participation, but also a fundamental human right. The right to information is necessary to expose corruption, malpractice and to promote a culture of accountability both of which are very much needed in Bangladesh. In this context, the article upholds the reality of Official Secrecy Act and how this law functions as barrier to free flow of information and development.
