The liberation war of 1971 though helped establishing parliamentary democracy for a short span of time, but it came to a stop with the promulgation of one-party presidential type of government in 1975. Thenceforth the military administration and autocratic rule in various forms continued in Bangladesh till 1990. The members of National Assembly elected by the people in the general election of February 27, 1991 passed the 12th Reform bill of the Constitution in September 18, 1991, and this reintroduced parliamentary democracy in Bangladesh. Thus the Committee System as the most vital point of the 5th Parliament of Bangladesh was to be effectively activated. This paper aims at ascertaining the working of some parliamentary committees formed in the 5th Parliament of Bangladesh.
